Total has signed a $27 billion deal with the Iraqi government to construct four giant energy projects in southern Iraq, according to Reuters.
Total will make an initial investment of $10 billion, with engineering work to start immediately.
The French energy company will invest $3 billion in a project to inject sea water into oilfields to enhance crude recovery. Total also will provide $2 billion to construct a processing plant for gas produced at five southern fields in an effort to help Iraq to cut its gas imports from Iran.
The other two projects include a solar power plant and a project to increase crude oil output from the Artawi oilfield.
