TELUS, a communications and information technology company, plans to invest C$16 billion ($12 billion) in technology and operations in Alberta, Canada over the next five years.
The investment builds on TELUS’ commitment to scale wireless and wireline connectivity to communities across the province.
“TELUS’ world-class communications infrastructure will help unleash the next generation of our innovators, and empower those job creators who can take advantage of the latest technology to move our province forward,” said Jason Kenney, premier at TELUS.
TELUS has invested C$3 billion ($2.2 billion) to connect 125 communities and more than 2 million premises to the TELUS PureFibre network since 2013. First launched in Blackfalds, Alberta, the gigabit-enabled TELUS said its PureFibre network is among the most advanced communications infrastructure available in the world.
Between 2000 and 2018, TELUS invested more than C$45 billion ($34 billion) in technology and operations in Alberta.
The recent investments are consistent with TELUS’ capital expenditure guidance for 2019, released in the fourth quarter 2018 earnings announcement on Feb. 14.
