Swedish telecommunications company Telia Co. has selected Nokia to provide 5G radio access networks (RAN) in Finland as part of a greater rollout of 5G across the country. The five-year deal will include the modernization of legacy radio networks and will cover 7,500 sites.
A long-standing strategic partner of Telia Co., Nokia has also been chosen as the supplier of 5G standalone core in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
Telia and Nokia opened the first pre-commercial 5G networks in Helsinki, Vantaa and Oulu in Finland in September 2018. The commercial network was opened at the beginning of 2019, and the accelerated roll-out has continued to 42 cities in Finland, according to Nokia.
