Telefónica’s German subsidiary O2 Deutschland is in advanced talks with Telefónica’s global infrastructure company Telxius regarding the €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion) sale of 10,000 towers, according to Spanish news outlet Expansion.
Telxius is 50 percent owned by Telefonica, 40 percent owned by KKR and Pontegadea, the personal investment company of Amancio Ortega, the founder and majority shareholder of Spanish clothing company Inditex.
Telxius manages a portfolio of 20,257 telecommunications towers across Europe.
In November 2019 Telefónica created a subsidiary, Telefónica Infra, in order to bring together Telefónica’s shareholdings in communications infrastructure vehicles. Since then, the new company has decided to transfer most of the group’s marketable radioelectric sites to Telxius in order to increase the size of the company.
