Sydney goes 100% renewable in historic climate deal

As cities continue to buckle down on critical climate initiatives, Sydney has successfully made the switch to 100 percent renewable energy.

The city will rely on locally sourced clean energy from wind and solar farms in New South Wales, reducing carbon emissions by around 20,000 tonnes each year and saving the city up to half a million dollars every year over the next decade.

Renewable energy will power all of the city’s operations, including street lights, swimming pools, council buildings, and even Sydney Town Hall, according to various local news sources.

Valued at more than A$60 million ($42 million), reports say this is the largest renewable energy deal in Australia to date.
