Study shows many Europeans feel defenseless against climate change

Almost half of the population in 10 European countries feel they are virtually defenseless against the effects of climate change, according to a survey conducted by E.ON and German survey institute, KantarEMNID.

Among the countries evaluated in the Living in Europe study, 58 percent of Italians and 56 percent of Romanians believe they have little or no protection from the climate crisis. In total, 43 percent of Europeans within the countries consider themselves unsheltered.

In contrast, only 22 percent of all Europeans believe they are well or very well-protected from the effects of climate change. The British felt the most secure overall, with 31 percent reported to be unconcerned and 28 percent feeling defenseless.

In addition, 21 percent of Germans feel well protected or very well protected while 40 percent felt vulnerable.
