Statkraft is planning to break ground on its 519-megawatt Ventos de Santa Eugenia wind project in northeastern Brazil, the company’s largest wind project in South America.
The project is moving forward following the close of a turbine supply contract with German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex, which will supply 91 turbines for 10 wind farms in the state of Bahia, located close to Statkraft’s existing Bahia wind power assets.
In 2019, Statkraft Brazil acquired a 660-megawatt wind project from a local developer. This announcement covers the first 519 megawatts of this development.
“The construction of Ventos de Santa Eugenia represents a significant step on the way to reaching the goal of developing 6 gigawatts of wind power globally by 2025 and fulfil our ambition to become a leading renewable energy company in the world,” said Jurgen Tzschoppe, EVP international power at Statkraft.
