Stack Infrastructure to expand data centers in Portland

by Kali Persall

Denver-based Stack Infrastructure is planning to expand its colocation services in Portland, Ore. — a region where the company has “deep roots,” Stack announced on Sept. 4.

The long-term expansion project will be located in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro and add more than 60 megawatts of additional critical capacity to the site’s existing facilities for a total of 100 megawatts.

“Portland is a key market for our clients and, consequently, for Stack,” said Matt VanderZanden, chief strategy officer. “Its unique combination of attributes that are ever-growing priorities in our industry — proximity to key user bases, excellent network and electrical infrastructure, and sources of renewable energy — make it a destination of choice as enterprise, hyperscale and cloud companies implement their growth initiatives.”

Stack developed its first data center in the Hillsboro region in 2012.

“We view this as a high-priority market for ongoing investment, and this is only the beginning of the presence Stack intends to build as we rapidly scale our critical capacity,” said Brian Cox, CEO of Stack.

The announcement comes on the heels of the company’s plans to expand its data center campus in Chicago, which were announced in July. The multi-story data center will sit adjacent to the existing 13-megawatt, 221,00-square-foot facility, and provide an additional 20 megawatts of critical capacity.
