As the infrastructure market adjusts to meet decarbonization goals and keep up with energy transition, there are many changes in how infrastructure operates, uses technology and is owned. Jai Mallick, a senior investment manager at Foresight Group, considers these changes in three distinct layers. In an interview published in the September issue of Institutional Investment in Infrastructure, Mallick discusses these layers of the sustainability transition: (1) the initial power transition, with the build out of renewables supported by government subsidies; (2) systemic power transition, where flexibility and greater connectivity is added to the sustainable power grid, and policy shapes further development of clean-energy generation; and (3) transition to wider net-zero emissions, including sectors beyond energy.
