Low rates of social interaction have led to a sharp increase in loneliness, which is changing what tenants are looking for in a residential property. And that is changing the value equation. A report titled, “Amenity activation and social change,” by Sarah Mathews, CEO, Little BIG Foundation, which was published in the September issue of Institutional Real Estate Asia Pacific, reveals how even the most popular amenities fall short of tenants’ deeper needs for community. “Developers and managers increasingly understand that to attract and retain both residential buyers and commercial tenants, they must encourage social interaction and wellbeing,” says Mathews. “This shift under­scores the necessity of designing environments that go beyond practical needs to the ongoing activation of spaces with the goal of fostering a sense of community and connection.”
