S&P Global Ratings rates NextEra Energy “best in class” in ESG evaluation

S&P Global Ratings has published its inaugural ESG Evaluation, beginning with an analysis of Florida-based energy company NextEra Energy.

The evaluation analyzes how environmental, social and governance factors could affect the company’s long-term sustainability.

The company ranked NextEra as “best in class” in preparedness, with an 86 out of 100 score. According to the report, the ranking reflects NextEra’s ability to identify and assess long-term risks and take concrete actions to actively reduce them.

The ranking was also based on NextEra’s ability to develop new opportunities through strategic decision-making.

According to the report, NextEra will likely be successful in the face of predicted disruption within the utility industry — the result of climate change, energy transition, cyber risks, changing demographics and customer demands.
