South Carolina Retirement generates 6.83% return for the fiscal year

The South Carolina Retirement System Investment Commission (RSIC), which manages the $40.6 billion portfolio of the South Carolina Retirement System, posted a net return of 6.83 percent for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, outperforming its benchmark of 5.49 percent.

Over the past three-, five- and 10-year periods, RSIC has posted annualized returns of 10.79 percent, 7.19 percent and 7.11 percent, respectively, each outperforming their respective benchmarks of 7.83 percent, 5.98 percent and 6.46 percent.

RSIC’s real assets investments comprise 12.5 percent of its portfolio’s exposure, slightly above RSIC’s 12 percent target allocation for real assets. In the past fiscal year, real assets returned -1.26 percent for the fund, well above its benchmark of -10.73 percent. A significant contributor to that outperformance was the fund’s private infrastructure investments, which comprise 2.9 percent of RSIC’s portfolio and returned 12.49 percent for the fiscal
