AES Distributed Energy (AES DE), a developer of solar photovoltaic and solar photovoltaic plus storage facilities, was selected by Hawaiian Electric Cos. to develop and operate two new utility-scale solar plus storage facilities on Oahu, Hawaii.
These two projects are expected to generate an aggregate total of 137,000 megawatt hours of locally produced, reliable renewable energy, serving upward of 23,000 homes.
AES DE will develop two proposed projects on Oahu: one will be a 19.5-megawatt DC photovoltaic facility paired with a 35-megawatt hour battery energy storage system, and the other will be a 60-megawatt DC photovoltaic facility paired with a 240-megawatt hour battery energy storage system.
Construction of the AES DE projects is expected to begin in 2022, with completion scheduled for 2023.
The projects are among 16 selected by Hawaiian Electric as part of the company's Stage 2 request for proposals, which was issued in August 2019. Plus Power was al
