A partnership consisting of the Smart City Infrastructure Fund (SCIF) and international network developer SiFi Networks has invested in the roll-out of a FiberCity network in Salem, Mass.
SCIF is funded by APG, the largest pension fund in the Netherlands, and managed by Whitehelm Capital.
Salem FiberCity will be an open access fiber network for internet service providers, home security providers, cellular carriers and educational providers. GigabitNow has been selected as the first internet service provider in Salem.
The privately funded citywide fiber network will pass every home and business in Salem, enabling access to smart city applications such as distance learning, telehealth and waste management.
Construction of the fiber network will commence before the end of the year, with the entire network projected to be complete in 2022.
