Oil and gas giant Shell has signed multiple partnership agreements with Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Oman LNG and OQ (formerly Oman Oil Co.), in fields of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrogen.
In one agreement, Shell International has acquired a 35 percent shareholding interest in a green hydrogen project, Green Energy Oman (GEO), which is expected to be developed in multiple phases to produce around 1.8 million metric tons/year of green hydrogen at full capacity.
“With our entry to the Green Energy Oman consortium, we are taking a further step to advance lower and zero emissions energy projects in Oman,” said Walid Hadi, senior vice president and country chair of Shell Oman. “The project remains in its early phase, but this is a sign of the potential we see for Oman through the energy transition.
