San Francisco–based Generate Capital, a sustainable investment and operating company driving the infrastructure transition, has appointed William Sonneborn as president.
Sonneborn is a seasoned executive and investor with nearly three decades of leadership experience helping scale the world’s leading alternative investment and asset management firms, including KKR, EIG, TCW and the IFC.
Sonneborn’s extensive background includes investing across multiple asset classes and industries, such as sustainable infrastructure, energy and disruptive technologies. He joins Generate from the IFC, where he served as global director of disruptive technologies, creative industries and funds. He was also chair of the investment committee, overseeing $7.5 billion in investments during his four years there. Prior to his stint at the IFC, Sonneborn was president of EIG Global Energy Partners, where he helped expand the firm’s investment strategies across the capital structure.
