Six years after the Scottish government purchased Glasgow Prestwick airport for just £1 ($1.2 dollars), the airport has found itself on the market again.
With a terminal capacity of 2.5 million passengers, the airport contributes £61.6 million ($78 million) to the Scottish economy, according to the Glasgow Prestwick website.
According to Michael Matheson, cabinet secretary for transport, infrastructure and connectivity, the government has always intended to return the business to the private sector when the timing was right.
“The senior management team at the airport has continued to engage with potential buyers and investors to discuss proposals for developing the business under new ownership,” he said.
In 2013, the airport was acquired by the government from former owner Infratil, after suffering £2 million ($2.5 million) in annual losses.
