Sao Paulo State Transport Agency, Artesp, is planning to award concessions for 22 regional airports following a recent government auction, according to bnamericas.
Brazil’s federal government held an auction for 22 airports earlier this month — consisting of 11 airports on the northwest block and 11 airports in the southeast block. The government projects a total of $80 million in investments for the airports.
The concession contracts will last 30 years.
“Regional aviation is a major inducer of economic development,” said Rodrigo Garcia, vice governor of Sao Paulo, in a statement. “With the investments of the private sector, with airports offering better services, we spark new business in logistics with distribution centers, hotel chains and other real estate assets that are incorporated into the economy of the region.”
