RWE Renewables, a subsidiary of RWE, has purchased a pipeline of four offshore wind projects in Poland from private owners and developers, marking its entry into the country’s offshore wind market.
The projects, which were purchased for an undisclosed amount, have a total generation capacity of 1.5 gigawatts.
RWE said the deal is part of the company’s effort to grow its offshore operations across Europe.
“Poland is a very attractive emerging market for offshore wind, and one with the best untapped potential in Europe,” said Sven Utermöhlen, COO Europe, offshore and new markets for RWE Renewables. “RWE is keen to enter it early and leverage our global offshore capabilities and strong local presence, in order to help build a strong offshore wind sector in Poland.”
