The Retirement Investment Choice Act, legislation recently proposed by House Republicans, would increase and expand defined contribution and 401(k) plans’ access to alternative investments.
The complicated nature of adding private-asset investments has prevented many investors from exploring the option. This act would codify the current administration’s executive order that provides regulatory oversight on allowing alternative investments to be included in retirement plan options. The executive order does not change laws itself, and this act would ensure the oversight becomes law.
Guidance from the executive order is expected to release in February 2026.
