Quinbrook commences operations for its first synchronous condenser project in Scotland

Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has completed construction and started operations at its Rothienorman synchronous condenser project in Northeast Scotland.

Rothienorman is one of 10 projects worth £323 million ($404 million) in forward revenues that were awarded a contract under the National Energy System Operator (NESO) Pathfinder II (PFII) program. Quinbrook secured more than half of the total contract value with seven contract awards.

NESO’s stability Pathfinder II program offers long-term inflation-linked contracts to secure essential grid services. The Pathfinder program aims to deliver investments in nationally critical transmission infrastructure considered essential to the United Kingdom’s net-zero future.

According to Quinbrook, Rothienorman is the first synchronous condenser project to reach commercial operations in PFII.
