Queensland’s Gold Coast light-rail project chugs forward with launch of EOI

GoldlinQ, an entity contracted by the Queensland government to lead the design, construction, operations and maintenance of the Gold Coast light-rail system in Queensland, Australia, will soon consider contractors to handle the construction portion of the project’s third stage.

The infrastructure is expected to help the Gold Coast cope with expected population growth over the next 20 years, according to the Queensland government.

The A$709 million ($484 million) Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3A is the extension to Burleigh Heads, offering passengers an alternative mode of transportation around the Gold Coast, according to the Queensland government. Stage 3A will expand the light-rail network by 6.7 kilometers (4.1 miles), from Broadbeach South to Burleigh Heads. Construction also will include eight new stations and the procurement of additional light-rail vehicles.
