Q&A: Catella provides a glimpse into the European lending market as 2020 closes out

by Kali Persall

Jacob Bruzelius, head of debt advisory and restructuring at Catella Corporate Finance, Stockholm, provides a rundown of the state of European real estate lending market at the end of 2020, as well as expectations for 2021.

Catella offers debt advisory services such as acquisition finance, debt restructurings, junior and mezzanine financing, and strategic financial advisory in Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

How would you characterize today’s European CRE lending market with regard to rates, terms and capital availability?

In Sweden, the availability of both bank and bond debt is abundant, while the availability of bank debt in Finland and Denmark is a bit more restrictive. Credit margins have improved since April but are somewhat above the pre-coronavirus levels.
