PSERS’ executive director Glen Grell to retire in 2022

Glen Grell, executive director of the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS), has announced plans to retire after seven years in the role. His retirement will take effect Feb. 28, 2022.

Effective immediately, the PSERS board will begin a search for Grell’s successor. Grell will transition to the role of senior adviser, effective Jan. 1, 2022.

Grell previously served on the board as a trustee at the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. During his tenure as executive director at PSERS, he was a fierce advocate for fully funding PSERS, working with members of the general assembly and the governor’s office to secure 100 percent of the annual required contribution each year.

Grell also shepherded the agency through an unprecedented global pandemic. He is now completing his three-year term as a member of the executive committee of the National Council on Teacher Retirement.
