Private credit sector set to hit $119b by 2026

by Elise Mackanych

Private credit is projected to reach $119 billion by 2026, including strategies spanning direct and senior lending to asset backed credit. The sector is expected to account for 58 percent of alternative fund flows in 2026, according to research from Alternative Investments Market Intelligence and Robert A. Stanger & Co.

Year-over-year growth remains at a modest 6 percent but has increased significantly since 2020. Overall, alternative fundraising is expected to grow from $192 billion to $226 billion between 2025 and 2026, marking a 17.7 percent increase.

This expansion is accredited to the increasing popularity of alternative investments, specifically private credit as a core alternative asset class. Institutional scale, broadening distribution and structural advantages such as interval-formats are foundations to this sectors expansion.
