President Biden calls for local production of construction materials amid supply chain issues

President Biden, in a State of the Union Address on Feb. 7, addressed supply chain issues and announced new standards to require all construction materials used in federal infrastructure projects to be made in the United States.

Biden said materials such as lumber, glass, drywall and fiber-optic cable all will be produced locally, and added that American roads, bridges and highways will be made with American products as well.

“We used to be number one in the world in infrastructure,” said Biden. “We’ve sunk to 13th in the world. The United States of America — 13th in the world in infrastructure, modern infrastructure. But now we’re coming back because we came together and passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law — the largest investment in infrastructure since President Eisenhower’s Interstate Highway System.”
