PPA signed for 365MW LNG power plant in Myanmar

by Kali Persall

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy has signed a power-purchase agreement for the 365-megawatt LNG Ahlon Power Plant, to be implemented by TTCL Power Myanmar Co. in the Yangon Region of Myanmar.

The ministry is reportedly looking to generate more electricity from all available sources from the country, due to an increase in electricity demand.

The Ahlone LNG project was launched in 2018 and TTCL Co. Ltd. carried out the feasibility study, environmental impact assessment, LNG feasibility and gas pipelines for the project. Ahlone LNG is one of three major projects that were issued a notice to proceed by the ministry.

This is the first long-term LNG project in Myanmar using an inland LNG Terminal and regasification unit. According to the Myanmar Times, TTCL Power Myanmar will invest $321 million in the construction of the plant and a 230-kilovolt power cable.
