After two years of work, the Port of Montreal has put its new overpass over Rue Notre-Dame Est in the Viau sector into service.
The overpass, inaugurated by the Montreal Port Authority (MPA), offers a direct link between the bulk terminals and container terminals. It was designed to improve the efficiency and fluidity of freight transportation and remove nearly 1,500 trucks from the local road network daily.
The project represents a total investment of C$47.8 million ($35.6 million).
The MPA followed a rigorous consultation and information process throughout the project, holding three public consultations at key stages in the planning of the project to define the main orientations and improve the concept. This new infrastructure has multiple eco-responsible features, including efficient management of rainwater with drainage swales, the integration of recycled glass in certain concrete elements and the selection of lighting that complies with starry sky-protectio
