U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced $113 million in new technology, energy and infrastructure initiatives in emerging Asia.
“These funds represent just a down payment on a new era in U.S. economic commitment to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” Pompeo said during his speech to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Pompeo said he will visit Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia this week, where he plans to announce new security assistance.
Among the new investments outlined by Pompeo, the United States will invest $25 million to expand U.S. technology exports to the region, add nearly $50 million this year to help countries produce and store their energy resources, and create a new assistance network to boost infrastructure development.
