Overall hotel bookings consistently increasing so far this year, says CEO

by Andrea Zander

At its fourth quarter earnings call, Jon Bortz, chairman, president and CEO of Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, discussed positive momentum for the hotel sector, which depends on the leisure travelers. There is a pent-up demand from leisure customers.

“Like last year, this year’s recovery starts with the leisure traveler, which is the primary demand segment currently traveling and the segment that is likely to increase as the year progresses, as people get vaccinated, as government restrictions ease and as more and more people feel safe and comfortable traveling. In fact, we’ve already been seeing the leisure recovery pick up since the beginning of the year when it was at its low point. Not only has occupancy been picking up in February, but overall bookings have consistently increased each week so far this year. For us, demand has consistently increased in all of our markets as government restrictions have begun to ease and more individuals feel safe and comfortable traveling.
