Origin Energy signs long-term offtake contract for stage 2 of Quinbrook’s Supernode BESS project

by Kali Persall

Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has significantly expanded its partnership with Origin Energy through the signing of contracts for stage 2 of the Supernode battery storage project in Australia.

Supernode is one of the largest permit-approved data storage campus projects in the Southern Hemisphere, playing host to one of the largest battery storage installations in the Australian National Electricity Market. The expansion features a 250-megawatt/four-hour battery energy storage system, another significant milestone for Queensland’s energy transition, according to Quinbrook. This is double the megawatt-hour size of the stage 1 BESS project, for which Quinbrook achieved a financial close and broke ground on in April.

Origin Energy originally committed to the full capacity of stage one under a long-term offtake contract and has now expanded its partnership with the signing of a long-term offtake contract for exclusivity for the full capacity of stage 2.
