OPERS appoints Paul Greff as new CIO

by Jody Barhanovich

Paul Greff has been appointed CIO of the $99.6 billion Ohio Public Employees' Retirement System, effective immediately, according to a statement from the retirement system. Greff succeeds Rick Shafer, who is retiring. Shafer had been OPERS’ CIO since September 2015.

As the retirement fund’s CIO, Greff will lead the Investment division in executing the annual investment plan and long-term investment strategy. As CIO, he will manage 55 investment professionals.

“I very much appreciate the opportunity to lead OPERS Investments,” said Greff.

Greff has 28 years of experience in the investment management industry. He joined OPERS in 2009 as senior portfolio manager leading the internal global bonds and securities teams. OPERS promoted him to deputy CIO in 2015.

Before coming to OPERS, Greff was a senior managing director of global fixed income at State Street Global Advisors.
