One global infrastructure fund sees positive returns in first half of 2020

Only one global infrastructure fund saw a positive return during first half 2020, as the Australian infrastructure equities sector suffered a 12.25 percent loss from January to June 30, according to Money Management, citing research by FE Analytics.

Mercer Global Unlisted Infrastructure returned 3.66 percent, according to the Australian news outlet. The fund invested in some 80 underlying assets across six managers.

The fund had a low exposure to airports, which have been impacted hard by travel restrictions sanctioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the fund is invested in communications assets, which comprise roughly 20 percent of the fund. The pandemic has caused this sector to boom as more operations move online and people increasingly rely on digital channels for every day tasks.
