Oklahoma endowment pours $30m into Brookfield’s senior mezzanine debt fund

The Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust is investing $30 million in the Brookfield Senior Mezzanine Real Estate Finance Fund, managed by Brookfield Asset Management.

The Brookfield Senior Mezzanine Real Estate Finance Fund invests in debt secured by U.S. properties in strategic locations. The fund opened in 2017 and had raised $1.1 billion as of November 2019.

Brookfield is a new manager for the Oklahoma-based endowment, according to Lisa Murray, CIO of the office of Oklahoma State Treasurer.

The trust has a 10 percent target allocation to real estate; its real estate portfolio is currently valued at $110 million.
