Ohio SERS approves $75m for Brookfield Global Transition Fund II

The School Employees Retirement System of Ohio (SERS) has approved a commitment of up to $75 million to the Brookfield Global Transition Fund II (BGTF II), a noncore infrastructure strategy within the real assets portfolio. The investments will be funded from cash reserves.

In February 2024, Brookfield Asset Management announced it had raised $10 billion in the first closing of BGTF II.

Ohio SERS’ global real assets portfolio was separated into distinct real estate and infrastructure allocations in January 2024. However, the two portfolios continue to be managed in tandem as they both provide diversification, inflation protection and income return, according to the pension fund.

The real estate target allocation is 13 percent with a range of 10 percent to 15 percent, and the infrastructure target allocation is 7 percent with a range of 5 percent to 10 percent. Due to current market conditions, staff is working to equalize the two portfolio allocations by movin
