Ohio School Employees commits $20m to Brookfield, posts fiscal year return

The School Employees Retirement System of Ohio (SERS) has committed $20 million to Brookfield Super-Core Infrastructure Partners (BSIP) Co-Investment Fund.

Managed by Brookfield Asset Management, BSIP is an open-end fund that invests in transport, telecommunications, power and renewable-energy assets. According to Pitchbook, the fund has now raised $8.67 billion of capital.

SERS posted a net return of 7.39 percent for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, outperforming its benchmark of 7.09 percent. Over the past three- and five-year periods, SERS has generated net annualized returns of 10.65 percent and 8.26 percent, respectively, both above those time periods’ respective benchmarks of 8.64 percent and 7.21 percent.

Some 20.9 percent ($3.6 billion) of SERS’s $17.1 billion portfolio is allocated toward global real assets, slightly above its 20 percent fiscal year 2024 target for the asset class. Global real assets generated a 1.30 percent net return for SER
