O’Hare to get $8.5b expansion project

by Jody Barhanovich

The City of Chicago is set to finalize negotiations with top airlines for a planned $8.5 billion expansion project of O’Hare International Airport, according to local news sources.

The expansion would be the airport’s largest ever and would include a state-of-the-art global terminal, new gates and several additional concourses, the Chicago Tribune reported. In addition, Terminal 2 would be torn down to make way for a new “global terminal”, allowing for wider concourses and gates that would accommodate larger planes and international flights, according to the Tribune. Terminals 1, 2 and 5 would be renovated as well.

The expansion project is projected to take roughly eight years. Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel is expected to introduce a tentative agreement at a city council meeting on Wednesday.
