A new joint venture between Octopus Energy Generation and Skyborn Renewables, an offshore wind developer and operator with more than 20 years’ experience, has been selected by the French government to bid in the country’s next offshore wind tender in 2025.
With around 1 gigawatt of installed capacity, France’s offshore wind market is still relatively small. However, the market has huge untapped potential, with the government targeting 45 gigawatts by 2050.
The French government’s decision follows a rigorous prequalification process to choose the best companies to enter its ninth offshore wind tender round. Winners are expected to be announced in late 2025.
This will be the first offshore wind tender Octopus will enter globally, expanding its footprint in this space.
