NYSTRS commits up to $200m to real estate debt funds

The $109.7 billion New York State Teachers’ Retirement System is investing up to $200 million in real estate debt strategies. The pension fund committed up to $100 million each to Brookfield Real Estate Finance Fund V and TCI Real Estate Partners Fund II.

Brookfield Real Estate Finance Fund V, managed by Brookfield Asset Management, is a closed-end, value-added fund that will invest in debt secured by U.S. properties. NYSTRS previously committed $100 millionto the funds predecessor, Brookfield Real Estate Finance Fund IV, in August 2014.

TCI Real Estate Partners Fund II, managed by The Children’s Investment Fund Management, is a closed-end fund that will invest in debt secured by European and U.S. properties.
