Nuclear fusion grows in popularity

As the clean energy transition continues to advance, nuclear fusion companies are also on the rise, and the influx of private capital in these companies is a testament to investors’ confidence in them.

According to a recent study conducted by the U.K. Atomic Energy Authority and the newly formed Fusion Industry Association, there are at least 35 fusion companies globally, 18 of which have received a combined $1.8 billion in private funding, plus an additional $85 million in grants and other funding from governments. Of the 23 companies that responded to the survey, 15 were founded since 2010.

Four companies currently account for 85 percent of this funding. They include Commonwealth Fusion Systems, General Fusion, TAE Technologies and Tokamak Energy. The study notes there is still enormous scope for investment and innovation in this emerging industry.
