Nofar Energy enters Polish renewables market

by Kali Persall

Nofar Energy has entered Poland’s renewable-energy market through an agreement with Electrum.

The companies will jointly hold a corporation that will initiate, develop, manage and maintain photovoltaic and wind energy projects, with a capacity of as much as 1,250 megawatts. Nofar Europe will own 80 percent of the joint venture, and Electrum will own the remaining 20 percent.

In February, the Polish government adopted an energy policy, which aims to reduce coal-based electricity from 66 percent to 56 percent by 2030, and decrease carbon dioxide emissions by at least 30 percent. It will also seek to increase the rate of renewable energies in power generation from 13 percent to at least 23 percent.
