On Jan. 5, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul revealed plans to invest $500 million in offshore wind infrastructure as part of her vision for “a New Era for New York.”
This plan will directly invest in ports, manufacturing and supply-chain infrastructure, seeking to procure enough wind energy to power at least 1.5 million homes. It also will initiate planning for an offshore wind transmission network and launch the offshore wind Master Plan 2.0 Deep Water to help ensure New York state has the strongest offshore wind energy market along the Eastern Seaboard. In addition, New York will begin construction on the state's first offshore wind project — the South Fork Wind Farm — in early 2022.
“With this investment, New York will lead the nation on offshore wind production, creating green jobs for New Yorkers, and powering our clean energy future,”
