New green investment bank addresses infrastructure needs in Africa

Institutional investors are participating in a new investment initiative focused on the green infrastructure market in Africa.

The African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank (AGIIB) initiative will seek to raise between $3 billion and $5 billion from African institutional investors and governments and mobilize $20 billion from investment partners.

According to Hubert Danso, chairman of the African Sovereign Wealth and Pension Fund Leader’s Forum, Africa needs $100 billion per year for the next decade to address energy poverty across the continent. The AGIIB initiative will address fragmentation in the African green finance market through the creation of an international pan-African investment platform to mobilize institutional capital.
