Middle East investors deployed €2.1b into UK in 2019

by Andrea Zander

Investors from the Middle East deployed £1.76 billion (€2.12 billion/$2.3 billion) to the United Kingdom in 2019, according to real estate adviser CBRE.

Middle East investors deployed £230 million (€277 million/$tk million) into Scotland and a total of £880 million (€1.1 billion/$300 million) across the U.K. regions, compared with £650 million (€783 million/$849 million) into Central London.

While investment into the United Kingdom from the Middle East in 2019 was down compared with 2018, falling from £3.7 billion to £1.5 billion (€4.5 billion/$4.9 billion to €1.8 billion/$1.95 billion), this is the first-time investors have deployed more capital into U.K. regional cities than into Central London.

In Scotland, transactions took place in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, while the £67 million (€81 million/$88 million) purchase of Abbotsinch Retail Park in Paisley by Ashby Capital represented the largest acquisition by Middle Eastern investors.
