MidAmerican plans 591MW Wind XII project in Iowa

by Andrea Zander

MidAmerican Energy plans to invest $922 million in a new 591-megawatt wind farm in Iowa.

The company would become the first investor-owned U.S. utility to offset 100 percent of its customers’ electricity usage with renewable energy once its proposed Wind XII project is approved and commissioned, the company claimed.

MidAmerican formally filed the proposed project with the Iowa Utilities Board on May 30.

The project, if approved, is expected to be completed in late 2020.

The company is currently exploring potential wind farm sites in Iowa and will announce wind farm locations prior to constructing each site.
