Microsoft, Qcells join to build out renewable supply chain in U.S.

Microsoft has partnered with Qcells, an energy-solution provider and part of Seoul-based Hanwha Solutions Corp., to build out a supply chain for new renewable-electricity capacity.

The partners will develop solar projects and provide panels and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services to selected solar projects Microsoft has contracted for through power-purchase agreements (PPAs).

In mid-January, Qcells unveiled plans to invest more than $2.5 billion to build a complete solar supply chain in the United States. This marked the largest investment in the history of American solar and positions Qcells as the only company in the United States to establish a fully integrated, silicon-based, solar-supply chain from raw material to finished panel.
