Microsoft is moving forward with the construction of its Ginger East data center project in West Des Moines, Iowa, following approval from the West Des Moines City Council.
According to Data Center Dynamics, the first phase of the project, known as DSM 14, will include the construction of a 250,000-square-foot data center building near to the company's existing Alluvion data center.
The company is also developing a data center project in the city known as Ginger West.
Each Ginger data center is expected to span around 1.8 million square feet, with construction to begin this fall. IREI understands that Microsoft is planning a $1 billion investment in the data centers over a number of years.
