MassDOT approves $205m bridge replacement project

by Jody Barhanovich

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has approved a $205 million project to replace the old North Washington Street Bridge, also known as the Charlestown Bridge. The bridge is located along Boston’s historic Freedom Trail.

The bridge, which is 118 years old, has been structurally deficient for 16 years. According to news sources, the bridge has required up to $2 million annually for maintenance by the city.

J.F. White, a multi-disciplined contractor, with strengths in heavy/civil, design/build, electrical, mechanical and deep foundation systems, won the construction contract for the project and is expected to begin construction this fall.
