The Maine Public Utilities Commission has approved 546 megawatts of renewable energy projects. The projects mark the largest renewable energy procurement in the state’s history.
Some 17 bidders were selected to enter into 20-year power-purchase agreements with both or either of Maine’s investor-owned utilities, Central Maine Power and Versant Power.
About 482.5 megawatts will be for solar projects. The projects also include 20 megawatts of new wind, 39 megawatts of existing biomass and 4.5 megawatts of existing hydropower.
Maine has a goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2050.
