Macquarie’s U.K. infra debt strategy hits $3.3b

Macquarie Infrastructure Debt Investment Solutions (MIDIS) has raised £2.7 billion ($3.3 billion) for its United Kingdom–based infrastructure debt strategy.

The strategy was backed primarily by U.K. corporate pension schemes, local authority pension schemes, and insurance companies, MIDIS said in a June 24 statement.

Under the strategy, MIDIS has made 70 debt investments in infrastructure businesses around the United Kingdom, providing debt financing solutions for utilities, renewable energy, social and transport infrastructure operators.

“As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, investment in infrastructure and green energy will form a key part of the U.K.’s economic recovery,” noted Tim Humphrey, co-head of MIDIS. “By mobilizing U.K. institutional capital to invest in local infrastructure, we are helping essential infrastructure businesses meet the current and future needs of the communities they serve.”
